Whats with the Assist 0 setting of 1 and 1 above? On newer BBSHD motors, if you set it to anything besides 1 and 1 you wind up disabling pedal assist. I’ve also heard it said if you want to use your throttle while you are at Assist 0, then you set Assist 0 to 1 and 1. Regardless of the actual effect, the motor doesn’t behave desirably at Assist 0 unless you use 1 and 1 there. Unless you sandblast it. That might kill it. Now using throttle only, find your top speed using the gears. You will notice the smallest or highest gear does not give the top speed, but it will use the most amount of electricity. Go down a couple of gears (bigger rear cog) and the speed will not significantly drop, but your power consumption will – gives you more range! If you start pedalling, the BBSHD gives power up to a certain threshold which is determined by the PAS level. We ship the controller with 9 power levels that can be independently set by yourself via the display. Amps create heat, heat weakens the nylon gear and too many watts snap the pinion. So how do we get around this? Simple, know the limits but don’t get too close. Sure these are now nearer the limit, but ridden correctly (let the motor spin and don’t labour in the wrong gear), a reliable ride can still be had. At the lower volts where big amps are needed, we have capped the limit to 2800w @52v and 3250w @72v but as you increase your volts A ludicrous controller at 50A has 2500Watts – so does ours, but now add 10 -15% improvement through field weakening! Plus using the sine wave Adappto the motor should run more efficient and cooler than running a Chinese square wave ebike controller. Here again remember what a bad idea this can be on an eMTB.
