Description

The Maxwell has an internal DAC that handles up to 24bit/96kHz bitrate and is Dolby Atmos friendly with the Xbox variant only. Meaning, if you are running 4K content with your audio needs, you can also experience the equivalent hi-def audio stream that comes with it. Bluetooth In short:Game/Chat balance is simply done by adjusting the lower wheel (chat/communication wheel) up and down. Mic gain is now automatically controlled (adjusts microphone volume automatically). We've added a comparison between these headphones and the Turtle Beath Stealth Pro Wireless PS/Xbox in Noise Isolation.

We originally reported that these headphones support Bluetooth version 5.0 but this is incorrect. We have updated Bluetooth with Bluetooth version '5.3'. Maxwell will work with existing Dolby Atmos licenses. If it was previously enabled on PC, you can continue using it for Maxwell as well. The Audeze Maxwell comes in two console-specific variants: Xbox and PlayStation. The manufacturer states in their FAQ section that Xbox variant isn't officially supported on this console, which can result in 'some limitations in volume control and other possible loss of functionality'. They also recommend that you use the correct variant with each console.Away from competitive gaming and into the wonderful world (and surroundings) of Hogwarts, my mind was shattered into pieces. I do not normally play single player games with a headset. But naturally I had to give it a go with the Maxwell. The music from the 4 different vivariums was literally flowing through me. When I turned my character in a different direction in a dungeon and heard something behind me, I had the urge to look behind me IRL. In two words: Absolutely captivating. The Audeze Maxwell has great width, but its height and depth is where it truly shines. It is really rare for a wireless headphone to have such good imaging as well as such a massive dynamic soundstage. This also means that these headphones are not just for games. They are suitable for listening to music too and I highly recommend it! Presets and my love of the V shape sound for gaming

This is the first time I’ve received it. Usually, planar headphones are not forward and lush in setup and tone. Treble

Features

With up to 80 hours battery life, the Maxwell’s last twice as long as many rivals. What’s more, a full recharge via USB-C takes just 2 hours, with 25% charge available in just 20 minutes. On the Penrose and Penrose X, the Game/Chat Mix was done by pressing the Microphone wheel and then adjusting up and down, due to the default action on the wheel being microphone volume control. On Maxwell, as there is no microphone volume control (Maxwell uses AGC - Automatic Gain Control), Game/Chat balance is now the default action, meaning that you only have to adjust the lower wheel up and down to adjust the game/chat balance. Unsurprisingly, the sound quality on the Audeze Maxwell is fantastic. Just a step below a true audiophile performance, it delivers detailed, articulate highs, rich mids, extended low end, and a great immersive soundstage. It’s clear and detailed with lots of headroom, making games like Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Cyberpunk 2077, and Hogwarts Legacy incredibly immersive to play. The Soundstage of the Maxwell is absolutely fantastic. Simply put you have to try them out to understand. Playing Apex legends, I can perfectly pin point where the bullets are coming from and work out if the players footsteps are above or below me. With Tempest audio on, you even get a sense of perception of just how far (or near) they are to you. I am pretty sure I can now work out what character I am chasing/ be chased by just from the footsteps! Those sweaty Wraiths now stand no chance against me (Huwah ah ah). It is like having a second controller but not only that, a second controller which brings you directly into the world you are playing. On the exterior left cup, a power button at the base side. Long pressing it turns the unit on and powers up. After that, a double tap will enable wireless Bluetooth pairing mode. Above at the top of the cup, a microphone disables and enables the mute switch, which is great for fast “ Please, stop talking to me while I am on voice cha-type moments”

I recall the days of playing the original Call of Duty: MW2 with my AD700. People would call me a cheater because the final kill cam would often show me lead a target with my pointer and gun before that person would even show up visible from behind a wall. Likewise, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt sounded clear and detailed in testing, with strong directional imaging thanks to the PlayStation 5’s spatial audio processing. During a feast, the sounds of chatter, music, and flames remained distinct. The position of each nearby guest was discernible as the camera panned, with the audio panning accurately with it. The headsets are not cross compatible. You need to pair PS Maxwell with a PS dongle and Xbox headset with an Xbox dongle. We've added a link to our response to Audeze in the review introduction. Following our investigation, we have retested Imaging, non-Bluetooth Wireless, and Wired. This has changed the 'Non-BT Latency' and 'Analog/USB Audio Latency' values, and we have updated our review. I’ve wanted this sound since the original LCD-3 and in my opinion, this is the only Audeze to come out after the original variant of the LCD-3 that sounds anything like it in tone and physical setup.

The bass is accurate enough that you can hear all the sub-bass elements well. Though the bass goes deep, it’s worth noting that it is quieter than other neutral headphones and gaming headsets. It’s got a wider frequency range, yes, but it does not have a lot of oomph. As a result, explosions in games, videos, and music do not hit that hard unless you turn the volume up to 90% or the content itself has a lot of sub-bass. To adjust the headband, grab on to the strap near the screw holes and pull the strap holes over the screws. You do not need to remove the screws from the headband to adjust the strap. This isn’t necessarily an issue, as most gamers don’t need a headset that can play from two wireless sources at once — however, the Maxwell also doesn’t allow you to manually switch between the two sources. Instead, it switches between the two sources automatically, prioritizing Bluetooth. It will automatically switch to Bluetooth if you get a phone call, or if you open an app on your phone that is playing sound. Maxwell is built on an all-new premium chassis including aluminum yokes and a spring steel headband for durability. Play in comfort, all day, all night with the deluxe contoured earpads and replaceable suspension strap. Shut out the world around you with class-leading passive noise reduction from the reinforced dual-chamber earcups. In terms of chipset improvements, the Maxwell uses a newer more powerful dedicated DAC/AMP chip. The DSP is also much more powerful compared to Penrose. This gives Maxwell much larger dynamic range and a lower noise floor compared to Mobius and Penrose.
