Description

Merrell designed Alverstone and Moab 2 styles for hikers with different goals. Why are these two Merrell boots different from each other? The distinction comes from the design and functionality for trekking, hiking, and trail running. Merrell Alverstone serves as the perfect hiking boots for the newbies, while Moab 2 is famous among expert outdoor activists. All applicable customs and import duties and any other charges are the responsibility of the customer. Frequently asked questions Is Gore-Tex the only type of waterproof material in Merrell hiking shoes?

Merrell provides long-lasting hiking shoes at reasonable prices, with the Alverstone waterproof a prime example. As mentioned, the materials of this shoe are darn robust, resulting in a durable hiker. Although most seem to find the fit spot on, a handful of comments suggest the fit is on the small or narrow side. So you may need to size up if you have wide feet or just like a roomy fit. As hiking shoe designs and technology improve, more avid hikers are transitioning away from hiking boots. This is true for fans of Merrell footwear, also. Instead, they are hitting the trails with Merrell hiking shoes. And for good reasons. The materials used in Merrell Alverstone are slightly different than Moab 2 Ventilator and GORE-TEX. Merrell crafted Alverstone with suede leather and mesh upper with molded nylon arch shank. In contrast with Moab 2, Alverstone Waterproof comes with the M Select™ DRY impermeable membrane to protect the wearer from water leakage at water bodies. These shoes also have molded nylon arch shank to provide rigidity and stability to the boots during outdoor activities.

Unfortunately, a few other reviewers seem to question the breathability of this membrane so that you may get a little sweaty on scorching days. However, this combination ensures superior protection from wet conditions. We put every Merrell pair to the test by hiking in them for weeks on a variety of terrain types. We also use each one rigorously in the setting it is mainly built for. Leather is a hard-wearing material, whereas the mesh materials allow airflow. The M Select Dry membrane also keeps water out whilst allowing excess moisture to escape, although some users have questioned the breathability of this shoe. In its second version, the Moab 2 Mid-hiker also boasts excellent cushioning, durability, and good traction for groomed trails or everyday wear.

Coming in a range of whole and half sizes, it should be easy to find a size that fits. Although the men’s version comes in a wide, the women’s only comes in a standard size. Handling ascents and descents are also no problem with the grooves added to the heel and forefoot. Accidental bumps and humps from stone and boulders are also no issue with the sole’s front end shields that protect the toes. Both the women’s and men’s versions of the Alverstone Waterproof feature plenty of protection and comfort for adventures and performance hikers. Of course, you can’t be comfortable when wet, but that’s no problem with the mesh and suede leather upper that’s lined with an M Select Dry membrane.

The Merrel MQM Flex 2 GTX is the best Merrell hiking shoe for speed hiking. The MQM Flex 2 GTX is super lightweight, has excellent traction, and is incredibly comfortable on the trail. Which Merrell hiking shoe is best for water hiking? Merrell crafted Moab 2 insoles with Kinetic Fit™ ADVANCED design. This design allows you to remove the contoured footbed with reinforced heel cushioning while providing medium support. Foot padding, zonal arches, heel relief, ergonomic form, total arch coverage, improved heel stabilization, smell management, and a sustainable design with recycled EVA are all Kinetic Fit™ ADVANCED insoles. The cushioned midsole kept a spring in our step while out hiking. In the lab, we applied a durometer and found the midsole measures 36 HA. 9% firmer than average, it kept our feet protected from sharp objects, while still giving that cushioned feel which kept us going all day.

No, Gore-tex is not the only waterproof fabric used in Merrel hiking shoes. Merrell uses their proprietary M-Select Dry technology in some hiking shoes. However, Gore-tex does tend to be the most popular material. For example, the Merrell Moab 2 GTX utilizes a Gore-tex membrane on the interior of the shoe. We squeezed the padded heel counter in the lab and awarded it a 4/5 for stiffness. 5 being the stiffest, we found this stiff heel works well at keeping our feet from moving around in the shoe - bye-bye blisters!Delivery timescales are esimates in working days; Public Holidays, Saturday's and Sunday's are NOT classed as working days. On the contrary, Merrell hiking shoes provide stability through the cushioning and stiffness of the midsole. Many hiking shoes provide excellent stability despite not having high-top cuffs.
