Description

The book is filled with stories that Martha wrote and told her Grandmother. Spurred on by the strange date in the book, Martha is determined to find out what happened to her Grandmother and where the book came from. This is an unusual love story disrupted by the conventions of the times, careers and by war. The writing is very assured for a debut novel and the characters are well drawn, particularly the central women, Alice and Kate and artist Thomas Stafford. It makes for a fascinating tale, spanning three generations, continents and time periods seamlessly. This was a charming book that seemed like a middle-age coming-of-age story to me. It was an awakening and Martha has a chance to grow and become what she could be. I enjoyed the story. It's easy to see how many people become caretakers for others and lose themselves in the process. The characters are delightful - I loved Zelda's joie de vivre.

THE BOOK OF LOST AND FOUND | Kirkus Reviews

I loved the cover and I found the title intriguing. The story, however, was only OKAY. It was slow going for the most part, so even though I liked the characters, it was hard to stay interested. There was also a fair amount of repetition. I'm not sure how many times the color of one person's eyes were mentioned....I lost count (there were also other accounts of this type of repetition). Kate’s journey to find the woman in the portrait would take her to many places – from her home in London, to Corsica, Paris and New York. When she was finally able to arrange a meeting with the reclusive but famous artist, Thomas Stafford on the island of Corsica, she had no idea what the future would be. She was nervous, scared and sure she had made the wrong decision. But a determination she’d inherited from her famous ballerina mother kept her moving forward. And as she gradually learned about the past, Kate came to realise there was a deep and romantic love story which had spanned decades unfolding in front of her. Find out about the South Pole… Try to find it on a globe. Where is in relation to where you live? How far away is it? If you wanted to go there, how would you travel? I listened to the audiobook of The Book of Lost and Found which was superbly narrated by Fiona Hardingham. Does this book actually have copies of Martha’s stories that she would write because of her Grandmother's prompting? It's Penguin Awareness Day, so, we've put together a booklist full of books about penguins, so you can get to know more about the flightless birds and love everything they're about. We meet lovable, helpful, selfless Martha who works in a library and only has her critical sister left so she can’t ask her about the book or Grandmother because Lilian's answer will be completely negative about Martha's findings and her questions just like her father. Not everything is tied up nice and neatly at the end and, to be honest, I could have done with just a little more . . . So what makes a book worthy of 5 stars? For fiction, it has to be one that I couldn't put down at for at least a large chunk of it. Since I can rarely finish a book in one day even if I want to, if I end up dreaming about the book that's also a sign of 5 stars. Historical fiction has to have a significant anchor in the history it's drawing from AND a great story that is both timeless and is tied to the time described simultaneously.

The Book of Lost and Found: A Novel Kindle Edition

This actually would be a good read for 'Grandparents Day.' The way the characters dealt with, thought through, and talked through loss was just beautiful. So real. There's love and longing for your lost loved ones, but also some guilt and some opportunity to understand them even better. Her debut novel, The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, was translated into over twenty languages worldwide and has been optioned by a major Hollywood film studio. Make a poster to tell people that you have found a penguin, in case anyone has lost it (see Resources below). However, it was a very good choice and one that should be considered seriously by historical fiction junkies. It's not bad, but just never grabbed me. The modern woman mouthpiece is two dimensional at best. All the pieces fell for me from the first quarter of the switching on top of it. I've liked her other books better than I did this one. And after I finished, I read to realize that this was her debut book. Oh, she got MUCH better.Overall, The Library of Lost and Found is a joy to read, especially for bibliophiles. It’s a book you fall into, with characters you love getting to know, and a mystery that keeps the plot moving along. It left me with a smile on my face and warm fuzzies, too. i predivni opisi Korzike, koji su me motivirali da guglam opisana mjesta i divim se prirodnim ljepotama u kojima su glavni protagonisti uživali svoju ljubav. In this charming sequel to Lost and Found we rejoin Boy and Penguin who do everything together until one day Penguin decides he needs to try something on his own - fly. The boy was delighted when they first arrived at the South Pole… Think of synonyms for ‘delighted’. In the film version of the story, the boy and penguin come across an octopus. Could the children design their own sea creatures?

The Book of Lost and Found by Lucy Foley | Waterstones

This is one of those books where you simply can't tell if it is fiction or not, it is well written. Cute story, and it had some touching moments but I think I'm going to put it in the decent but not amazing read category.

In a good dual-timeline book, the past is at the heart of the tale whilst the present day acts in a secondary manner weaving in and around it. We have included sounds from different phases and a blank copy to give your class the opportunity to choose sounds they know.
