About this deal

Around the parish, you can meander around gorgeous coastal paths through farmlands and villages, clifftops to find hidden beaches and adorable historic chapels! In 1292, King Edward I granted permission for the village to run one of the most westerly markets of mainland Britain here. A magical puppet and live-action production is performed annually in the heart of Mousehole alongside the village’s famous Christmas light display. Others have noted in old travel books like “The Land’s End District” (1846) by SirEdmundAntrobus that it comes from a hole in the cliffs nearby.

This is a very similar story to the Hurlers on Bodmin Moor, read more about them here! St Michaels Mount I read this to my son for the first time in ages last night. The poor lad is a bit not well so I thought an old favourite would be comforting. I have been reading this lovely book to my children for 14years, since my eldest was tiny, and it remains a much loved story. As soon as I started reading last night and fell into the familiar rhythms, we both felt like we were sailing home. You can make a phone call at the end of England, send a postcard stamped at Land’s End, have the most southerly Cornish pasty, take a photo with the Land’s End sign and go on the wealth of pretty walks around the area. Between its high headlands lie tiny sheltering harbours where the fishing boats hide when the winter storms are blowing.

Curriculum

A beautifully illustrated book, which mingles history and legend to tell a stirring story of heroism and storms at sea and a very special cat. My year 5 class are currently studying this book in Literacy and they love it! This book is cleverly written from the cat’s perspective, where the animals are the masters and the humans are the pets. Using sections of the book we planned and taught lessons on punctuation, grammar and short pieces of writing. There are many access routes where you can stroll along the harbour walls, or follow it around towards the Wharf to find more hidden coves. Those that saw the hole commented on it looking like a Mouse’s hole and that’s why they named it so. I guess the real origins will forever remain a mystery! Set in the Cornish village of Mousehole, this book tells the story of Mowzer the cat and her human, old Tom. Tom is a well-behaved human and looks after Mowzer, making sure that she is well kept and cooking her favourite fish dishes.

The Land’s End Landmark attraction is FREE although many of the things inside it do come with a charge and you will pay out the nose for parking. If you go inside today, you can find a whole section of the bar called Dylan’s Corner. It was set up in his honour! 5. Visit The Mousehole Shop But, they are also a great place to explore and see what’s hidden amongst them. From local art galleries, pubs decorated with colourful flowers and boutiques.I really don't have a good sense of my niece's impression of The Mousehole Cat. She listened to the story, but to be fair, her attention was divided. She was working hard on developing some sort of sympathy-inducing ailment. She was about to get in trouble with her mother for not doing her homework, so she really needed to pull out all the stops. :-) I love the illustrations that accompany the text, as they would be appealing to all year groups. The colour scheme is a palette of soft blues, greens and silvers; capturing the tranquility of the Cornish sea. The beauty of Mousehole is not lost on many and even figures in the literary world were captivated by its charm. Often from my own life or other peoples'. The Ghosts was inspired by a visit to an old house; The Ring in the Rough Stuff by going sailing with friends on an old Thames Barge; and The Mousehole Cat by a song I found in Cornwall. For the Dancing Shoes series I had help from my daughter Gemma, who did ballet lessons from the age of three until she was fifteen. In this book, the cat, Mowzer, is master of his fisherman, old Tom. There is a tiny village in the western part of Cornwall where the harbour is so narrow, it is named Mousehole.

The class would discuss the various dishes mentioned in the book, especially ‘Stargazy Pie’. They would decide the ingredients for this and write up a selection of recipes and illustrations to go with these. This would become a class Mousehole cookbook. This is a moving story about a cat and his man who save their community from starvation, and it’s an enthralling story. It involves courage and danger and adventure, and cats of more than one type take prominent roles. Another magical part of Mousehole Harbour is the Mousehole Harbour Beach that appears here at low tide. The Mousehole Christmas event starts in December and is completely FREE to visit although donations are welcome (watch out for fraudsters trying to charge you). You can visit anytime between 5 pm and 11 pm to see thousands of festive lights twinkling against the night skies! Why are the Mousehole harbour lights dimmed? Navigating the maze of steep narrow roads can be stressful. But, it’s definitely worth the effort to visit this adorable place by the sea. The Mousehole Harbour Lights festival started off in 1963 when a local artist called Joan Gillchrest installed a string of coloured lights across both quays.
