The BBC often turn to her when they want a contrary female view of wolf-whistling, she jokes, ‘because I think I’m the only woman prepared to say I actually like it’. She told the GMB audience, when she was a guest, ‘I think women are always quietly in charge, I just think it’s best to let the men think they are.’

I absolutely loved it. It’s unputdownable, a great mystery and a fantastic read’ BARBARA TAYLOR BRADFORD international bestselling author I think every working woman will relate to this story. I was enraged in places and cheering certain characters on, then questioning my own judgement. An intelligent, thought-provoking and highly topical story with some great twists. They’ll want to talk to you, too.’ The words came out in a rush. ‘And Nicole –’ she heard her own voice dip down ‘– I can’t get hold of Alex.’ Terminating the call – leaving a message was too risky, and with the four previous attempts to reach Alex, Jill had

Alex, already furious over her unfair dismissal and the fact that the promised job lead proffered by Jamie doesn't exist, is even angrier when she hears Nicole's story, and she proposes revenge. (Yes, this is probably a scene inspired by the Dolly Parton comedy "9 to 5" but believe me, this stuff ain't funny at all.) I really enjoyed it this book The story is well developed, with flawed and realistic characters (with the exception of Jamie, who was a bit too caricature-of-a-villain for me - how on earth he got one woman to fall for him, let alone two,was the biggest mystery in the book!). It was very much the women and their interconnections that carried the story along, and I loved that despite - or maybe because of - their mistakes, the author makes us care for each of them, and root for them. I found myself wanting to know more about them, even after I finished the book. AND I didn't see the last twist coming, so bonus points for finishing up with something that genuinely blindsided me! Already looking forward to reading more from this author. Modern, intelligent and totally gripping. Nicole Kidman TV miniseries is written all over it - SUNDAY TELEGRAPHPayday follows the fallout of one evening, when three women who don’t know each other very well end up exchanging confidences about their boss, Jamie Lawrence. Everybody in their firm seems to love Jamie except, it transpires, Jill, Nicole and Alex. They all recognise Jamie for what he is: an exploitative and misogynistic power-hunter, with no scruples about using women for his own end. And they agree that something must be done to bring about his fall from grace. Not only does Walden not object to his extended interruption, she’s highly amused by her husband’s observations, even when – as if he has just walked off the set of a 1962 Carry On – he tells me how well ‘Nurse Celia’ tended to him during his illness, ‘delivering meals in a face mask and bikini’. (It was during that mini heatwave.) At one point, she became so irritated by his constant messages on her phone – she was trying to finish her second novel – she claimed their Wi-Fi had stopped working. Or perhaps it really had. Anyway, he promised to buy her a dress if she brought him a cup of tea. Really.
