There is no volume button on the device, but they have two power settings that will instantly give more loudness and increase the fullness of the sound. You can switch between these modes via a single power button press. Minirigs is a UK-based company that has taken a completely different approach to designing a portable Bluetooth speaker. One of simple design and outstanding build. The simplicity and attention to detail and performance are what sets them apart. A couple of years ago, they released their Minirig System of Bluetooth speakers. You can read our original Minirig speaker review here, but the short version is that I was blown away and declared it my favorite Bluetooth speaker.2 years later, do I still feel the same? Yes. Have I found anything better? No. Not in a direct comparison of sound and performance with its competitors. Compared to similarly-priced products, such as the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom, it isn’t quite as insightful across the board. We’d like more texture to each instrument, so this speaker can really show off the shimmer of cymbals or the throbs of bass guitars. At high volumes, there is a bit of distortion, especially in the bass as the single woofer struggles to provide enough impact, leading to a hollow and wooden sounding beat. Highs at max volume are slightly harsh but still very controlled.

However, if you can get past the small criticisms that some customers have about these speakers, you’ll be amazed about the quality of sound you get.

DON'T JUST HEAR THE BASS FEEL THE BASS

Although it’s unlikely you’ll get 100 hours all the time, there’s a good chance you won’t need to recharge the MiniRig 3 speakers too often between playing sessions. App Functionality Credit: Minirigs Best known for colorful, resilient, and durable speaker functionality, MiniRig gives you the kind of peripherals you need to perform in any environment. Some of those upper-midrange notes are also harsher than we would like. They have an unnaturally coarse cutting edge to them, which leaves you recoiling a little at each draw of the violin’s bow. This is only exacerbated at higher volumes. For the rest of this review, as mentioned, we will be talking about the use of 1 single Minirig speaker being used on its own, without being daisy-chained to other units. Essentially we want to look at how the Minirigs perform as a stand-alone portable travel speaker. To put it simply, the Minirigs Mini is the best-sounding Bluetooth speaker for traveling/portable use. The original Minirig still sounds the best, but honestly, the Mini is not far off it at all.

The MiniRig 3 is a portable, rechargeable speaker intended for life on the move. If you take your music with you to bars and booths around your city, then this device will ensure you never have to compromise on volume or sound quality. I don't tend to cover Bluetooth speakers here at Audiophile On, but companies send a lot to our offices. By that, I mean a lot of very average or outright crappy Bluetooth speakers. I won't bother covering them most of the time as nothing about them really stands out. When we decide to write about one, it means that we think highly enough for us to recommend it to our readers. Not only do you get a sensational 100-hour battery life from this product, but you can also expect a range of bonus features, including a 5-band equalizer, sensational syncing and linking functions, and 40 watts of power. So many other companies try and stuff multiple small diaphragms (tweeters, bass ports, etc.) into their small speakers that they end up with that weak and tiny sound. Minirigs solution of just putting in one single, high-quality unit inside. This seems so simple, but it provides the fullest, richest, deepest listening experience in this kind of form factor. The Minirig Mini has no business sounding as good as it does, especially for its size. The speaker gets impressively loud with 15 watts of power driving a single 52mm woofer. Sound fires directly upward so you don’t get a sense of directional audio like you do with 360-degree speakers like the Bose SoundLink Revolve or UE Wonderboom. This isn’t a bad thing, as the speaker still does an admirable job of creating a sense of space whilst playing in mono. Although there are slightly more attractive great speakers out there, you’ll struggle to find anything as simultaneously strong and compact as the MiniRig 3. For instance, it’s nice to know that you can link multiple speakers to the same system and create a stereo surround sound effect.

On a normal volume, you can expect a good sound base response down to around 80hz, thanks to the powerful main drivers. There’s dynamic equalization included within these devices to ensure that the sound remains as crisp as possible. In this MiniRig 3 portable review, we’re looking at one of the most compact Bluetooth speakers that the brand has to offer. A key feature of the Minirig’s design is that it only uses a single speaker. This allows the company to fit in a 3-inch driver in a device that’s only 4 inches across by 3.75 inches deep. Devices that use two speakers, such as the Beats Pill, may be able to offer stereo sound, but from much smaller drivers and a much larger unit. The result, when put side by side with the competition, is dramatic and the Minirigs 3 sounds better than all others I have tested. To be honest, it also sounds better than more significant semi-portable speakers 5-10 times the size of the Minirigs.

A tip that is worth mentioning (and one that can be applied with whatever speaker you end up buying) is positioning your speaker for the best sound quality.
